Why are you not using Google Adsense on your blogs?

I read blogs everyday and I have noticed that some of them are not using Google Adsense to monetize them. I wonder and try to answer the question myself. And I have come up with a few reasons why they are not using Google Adsense on their blog.

Traffic
Its not about how many visitors come to your site although it is also one of the reasons. But where do the traffic came from? . If most of your traffic or you have traffic spikes coming from websites that violates Google Adsense TOS like Entrecard, StumbleUpon, Blog Explosion, Link Referral and other traffic exchange sites, then Google Adsense is not suitable on your blog.

Showing Competetitors
If you blog for a certian niche, chances are competitor's ads will show on your ad units. Encouraging your readers to click them and losing your readers...forever. Also readers are becoming so tech savvy. They hate ads that would redirect them to another page or site when they click on it. And they tend to leave your site.

Low Cost-per-Click
Your earnings also depends on your keywords. And if you got low paying keywords but having huge traffic , you might want to consider to find an alternative that would make more money for you.

Those are just few reasons why people does not want to use Google Adsense. If you knew other reasons then we could add that up here on the list. I am thinking also of terminting my Adsense account. Let me know what you think.

Adsense Optimization Tip 3: Increase Earnings with other Adsense Features

It is possible to earn thousands on Google Adsense. I remember reading an article on Shoemoney showing his highest earnings on Google Adsense. And believe it or not, it is more than $100,000.  Yes! I've seen the check. If Jeremy can earn such bucks, then we can too. We can maximize our earnings on Google Adsense by using its other features.

Automatically deliver text and image ads targeted to your site and your site contents. Since ads are targeted, you can show your readers useful ads or ads that they are interested in. Thus maximizing your website's revenue.

Create a search bar and place it on your website. Earn revenue by helping your readers search across your website or across the web. You can customize the appearance of search results and ads.

Earn revenue by displaying text and image ads on your mobile's content. You can easily integrate ads on your mobile's web pages.

Earn revenue displaying text and image ads on your RSS feeds.

Earn revenue while parking your domain. If you have undeveloped domains, you can register for Adsense for domains and display ads. Rather than your visitors see empty pages of  your site.

This is a beta program of Google Adsense. If  you are a mobile applications developer, then you could sign up for this.

I don't know how this works.

You can now monetize your videos. Display InVideo ads and earn more when someone embeds your video across the web. You could also sign up as a partner on YouTube.

If you are playing apps on Facebook, you will see Google Adsense ads on the page. Top companies using Adsense for Games are Zynga, Playfish, Konami, Grab.com, Armor Games and etc.

So much for Google Adsense. Right now, I am currently enrolled on Adsense for Content, Search and Feeds.

Adsense Optimization Tip 2: Design the Perfect Ad

Designing the perfect ad on adsense is one of the key to earn on Google Adsense. It is not just by the quality of contents and quality of traffic that make you earn on Google Adsense. But how would you convince your visitors to click on the ad? You have to make it perfect! Perfect in a sense that it generates lots of clicks from your visitors. In designing the perfect ad, you have to take note of the following.

Ad Type

Choose the perfect ad size for your blog. The ad should encourage the visitors to click and not to annoy them. Experiment on different ad sizes and track them using channels on Google Adsense. Also think of a size that would fit on every section of your blog. For example, inside the blog post, the most appropriate ad size was 336×280 large rectangle. In the sidebar, you can put a vertical banner etc..

Color of the Ad

Should you go to a contrasting color or just blend the ad color with your contents? You must experiment on this and if the contrasting color generates more clicks, then you should go for it. Contrasting color - The ad color is different from your background making it to stand out. Blend the ad - means the background of the ad should be the same as the background of your blog/site. This would make users think that it is a part of your content and drawing them to click the ad.

Location of the Ad

Before you put ads, you must answer first these questions.

  • What part of my blog/site do most visitors visit? Is it the front page? etc..
  • What do my visitors usually do when they visit my blog/site? Read my contents? or Just hang around?
  • How can I manage putting ads by not making my blog full of just ads? Remember that you don't want to make your blog an ad blog.
If you could answer these questions, then you now have an idea on where to put ads. Ad positions varies depending on what type of blog/site you have. For forums, ads are best placed after posts and not on the header. Users usually scroll down to read and skip the header instead. For a normal blog like PC Holics,  ads are best place near contents. Now you get the idea.

The most important of all factors that is not mention here : Understand how your visitors behave on your site. Always listen to your visitors and not to everyone else if that would bring you more earnings.

Adsense Optimization Tip 1: Test and Track your Ads Using Channels

The concept of using "Channels" on Google Adsense was to test which custom ad block generate more clicks and give you  higher earnings. So in this optimization tip, you are required to put different ad slots on your site which has different colors, fonts, positions ,sizes and each must have a different channel name. However in case of a Blogger user, the system allows only to put 3 ad blocks on a Blogger blog. So you can't put multiple ad slots higher than 3. Correct me if my points are wrong here.

It pays your patience doing the optimization tip 1. Now you will see which ad performs better compared to the other ad slots. Using channels also lets you determine which of the two (banner and leaderboard ads) perform better in various positions of your blog/site.

Summarizing the concept, using channels helps you find out which ad position, color, font, and type of ad perform better on your site.
